First Day on the Job

Today was my first day on the job. I really didn’t know what exactly to expect walking through the doors at eight this morning. I was supposed to start my day, according to my schedule, spending time with the small animals. This had to be switched though because they have no small animals at the moment, so I got to start my day cleaning the cat room and their cages. I didn’t know what their exact system was for cleaning so they quickly showed me the procedure and I caught on easily. With another gentlemen that volunteered, we worked together to clean the room in a couple hours. I had learned how important certain signs were, such as having lots of sneeze marks on the windows of their cages. That could mean that they have a respiratory problem. I had come in contact with two cats in one cage together who sneezed constantly and had to have special medicine in their food. Throughout the middle of my day, I was either in the workroom doing laundry and cleaning bowls and toys or I was going around washing windows and scrubbing walls. The last big thing of the day was getting brunch supplies together for a fundraiser on Sunday. I helped pack inventory and cut paper certificates to be framed. Today I volunteered for 7 ½ hours and have completed 7 ½ hours of my senior project out of 100 hours.
